Emerald L King
Since 2007, Emerald L King has been involved with community cosplay events and competitions as a panelist, organiser, MC, judge, and backstage coordinator across Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
More recently, she has acted in an advisory capacity, helping to write rules and design cosplay competitions for a number of high-profile events in Australia and New Zealand.
Emerald is available for:
COSPLAY JUDGING – Emerald’s main knowledge areas are sewing, hand embroidery, textile manipulation, and historical plausibility. She has experience with set design and large props.
Emerald is also able to judge leatherwork and foam armour, and has a basic understanding of lights and 3D printing.
MC AND HOST – Emerald has MC’d and hosted events in English and Japanese in her role as a working academic and as a cosplayer. She was the host of the Jewels of Kyoto geisha tour in NZ and the host of the Hobart events of the Festival of the Fantastic in Australian and Japanese Arts including talks with authors Tansy Rayner Roberts, Danielle Woods, Isobelle Carmody, and Lucy Christopher. Emerald regularly chairs academic panels at international academic conferences.
COMPETITION DESIGN AND RULE CONSULTATION – Since 2013 Emerald has designed and advised on competition format and rules competitions for local, national, and international competitions.
Her experience includes working backstage at large, international competitions such as the World Cosplay Summit (2017-2019).
Emerald has worked with WCS Australia, WCS Inc, SMASH, DreamHack Aus, Crunchryoll Aus, Madman AU and NZ, PAX OZ, OzCC (Melbourne), Overload NZ, Dark MOFO, Events ACT, Japan Foundation Sydney, Australia Japan Foundation, Japanese Embassy Australia, Consulate General of Japan Melbourne, Japanese Embassy NZ, TasPOP, and ICoN Cosplay Photo Fest.
